Minimal Footprint, Massive Impact: How Wildtrails Conquered a Belgian Forest with Battlefield Sports

Wildtrails is an outdoor recreation company that specialises in team building. They offer activities for tourists, families, and other groups on weekends and holidays. Wildtrails is based in the Luxembourg region of Belgium.

They offer a variety of activities for their visitors.

They have had a wide variety of players through their laser tag.

Everyone loves Laser Tag! From kids as young as 6, through to professional football teams, construction workers, and CEOs of multinationals!

"My favorite game is where we incorporate the lasertag equipment for an activity we call Laserhunt. It spans a large area, and we can play it with up to 300 participants. Fun guaranteed!" said Maarten from Wildtrails

SEE THE SUCCESS STORY

What Wildtrails Offer

Wildtrails offers a wide variety of games. They mix and match the missions to suit each group.

Often, the laser tag is part of a tailor-made programme.

The games they run include:

Team Death Match

Domination

Free-for-All AKA "Battle Royale"

Capture the Flag

And "Laserhunt" AKA "Capture the Base"

Wildtrails typically run the games in the forest. They have set up multiple "battlefields" across their expansive grounds. They can run 4 battles with 8 teams total simultaneously.

They installed natural barriers to minimize their ecological footprint.

The adventure began in 2013 when Wildtrails invested in a range of Laser Taggers. They were looking for an activity that could facilitate large groups on their beautiful grounds.

Today, for the players, they have:

15 Honey Badgers

18 Spitfires

12 P90’s

12 Scorpions

8 Cobra Taggers

And for the crew:

4 Master Controllers

12 Battle Boxes: 4 set as Domination Boxes (the dom boxes act as a mission objective) & 8 set as Combination Boxes (the combo boxes issue both extra ammo and respawn players).

The Biggest Highlight

At one event, Wildtrails had 300 participants. Their goal: attack a medieval castle.

Inside the castle were defenders who had to prevent the attackers from entering the castle “alive”. Once inside the castle, a delicious barbecue awaited them.

"It was epic because the participants also arrived at the castle at dusk. The beautiful setting sun made it a real spectacle. It could have been straight out of a film," said Maarten.

At Battlefield Sports, we call this game "Capture the Base."

The Perfect Alternative to Paintball

Back in 2013, Maarten and the team were looking for a new activity for their location. They had plenty of beautiful woodland space that they weren't using. They were searching for a "high-tech" activity suitable for both businesses and casual visitors. They wanted an activity that they could run on their grounds and on the road.

When surveyed, many people requested paintball.

But paintball had a major problem: its footprint. Wildtrails wanted to keep its impact on nature to a minimum. Shooting paint everywhere wouldn't do that. They needed something that had the same feeling but without the mess.

That's where laser tag came in.

Afterwards, they noticed that all the requests for paintball had switched to laser tag. It suited their clients perfectly.

Stellar Endurance

Wildtrails has put their kit through just about everything! The taggers have survived all kinds of groups and weather conditions.

"We have played in 10 centimeters of snow, pouring rain, and bright sunshine," Maarten said.

They have run laser tag with a massive variety of participants from stag parties to children's parties, from construction workers to CEOs of multinationals.

"And we still have a full, working arsenal," Maarten said.

One of the reasons why Wildtrails chose Battlefield Sports was the ease of maintenance. They could be confident that their equipment would withstand the rigors of their operation.

"[The taggers are] sturdy, easy to handle and great fun for everyone," Maarten said.

Maarten's Advice to Someone Thinking about Starting Laser Tag

"Just do it," Maarten said.

"[You] get all the information you need from Peter and Nicole. They will help you take a big step forward in getting started. Because you will have few to no problems with Battlefield Sports, success will come naturally."

"We chose Battlefield because their weapons are extremely reliable," Maarten said, "easy to use, and we can maintain them ourselves."

"In addition, Battlefield Sports continues to innovate in the field of laser shooting. The communication system with hits and kills via infrared and radio frequency, the various game modes, and the good references we received made us choose Battlefield Sports," Maarten said.

A major benefit of Laser Tag is that it can be used at events on the move. Wildtrails can offer Laser Tag anywhere. They have run events for their clients in warehouses, around a medieval castle, inside one of their country houses, on the beach, and, of course, in the woods.

"That’s the advantage that we can play anywhere," Maarten said.

"We had a group who came to play with their family, friends, and neighbours for three days in a row because the children gave the following feedback: It's so much fun, can we come again?"
