Storm the objective! Take control of the area! Get the glory!

The "Capture the Base" Mission

domination game

In the Capture the Base Mission, players vie for control over a central area on the battlefield. This game is always played twice. Each team gets a chance to be the defenders and the attackers. Capture the Base is a more strategic alternative to Domination, though it is also more staff intensive. Teams get the opporunity to play different roles, both as defenders and attackers. Each role challenges them in different ways.

Each team gets a chance to be the attackers. They storm the central area, usually a building or fort. Their goal is to have as many players as possible alive in the area at the end of the game.

Meanwhile, the defenders are trying to hold them off. The defenders have limited respawns. When we've used them up, there is no more!

The game is placed twice. Whichever team had the most survivors at the end of the game during their turn as attackers are crowned the victors.

This is a great game for corporate groups!

The Defender's Battle Box is set as a "Medic Box" with a special setting. You can either give them a time limit (for example, they can respawn for 13 minutes out of a 15 minute game) or a limited number of respawns (typically 3x the number of players on the team).

Here's How The Game Works

1. Setting Up the Game:
  • Choose the correct Battle Box settings: Use the common settings menu on your Battle Box to configure your two Medic Boxes. Each team has a Medic Box where they respawn from. While the attackers have unlimited respawns, the defenders' don't.
  • Teams: The game is most commonly played with two teams (Red vs Blue), swapping the roles around after the first game.

2. Gameplay Mechanics:

  • Control the Objective: Players need to be within a specified area when the game ends. A staff member then counts how many players are still alive by looking at their hit light. If the light is on, they're dead!
  • Respawn Counting—You're medic box will count how many respawns it makes. When you set a respawn limit on your Medic Box, it will automatically stop respawning when it hits that limit. This frees up your staff to watch the game.
  • Victory Condition: At the end of both games, you can compare the scores for both teams. Then play the victorious phrase from your controller. Either "Red Team is Victorious" or "Blue Team is Victorious".

3. The Flexibility of Domination:

  • Small or Large Groups: One of the best things about the Capture the Base mission is its flexibility. Whether you have just a few players or a massive group of 300, the game can scale to suit your event. You can play with as few as six players or as many as 300+ by adjusting how the game is set up.
  • Adjusting the Game: The rules and the battlefield layout can be tweaked to suit the size of your group. For example, if you're running a smaller event, bring the Medic Boxes closer together.

Scoring the Mission

Scoring in the Capture the Base mission is trickier than our standard missions.

Here’s a breakdown:

Unlike many of our recommended games, this one requires the mark-1 eyeball. When the game is over, count how many players on the attackers team is alive.

Jot that down on a piece of paper or in your notes app.

Navigate to the Phrases menu on your controller and trigger the "Change Ends" sound. This will announce it's time to Change Ends to all players.

After you played both rounds, compare the team's scores. Then navigate to the Phrases menu again, but this time to announce the results. Play either "Red Team is Victorious!" or "Blue Team is Victorious".

Everyone hears who one all at once. This is great for large groups.

That way no one is walking around wandering how won the game.

"We played with 300 participants, who had to attack a medieval castle in teams. Inside the castle were defenders who, of course, had to prevent them from entering the castle “alive”. Once inside the castle, a delicious barbecue awaited them. It was epic because the participants also arrived at the castle at dusk. The beautiful setting sun made it a real spectacle. It could have been straight out of a film," said Maarten, the Logistics Coordinator from Wildtrails. Read their case study here.

What do you need to run this mission?

  • X number of Taggers
  • A master controller and/or Scoreboard app
  • A radio repeater (if playing in a large area)
  • 2 x Battle Boxes
