Which Laser Tag brand should you choose?

Choose the Best Laser Tag technology with Proven and Repeatable Industry Success

These days, there are many different kinds of “Laser Tag” to choose from, from cheap toys to top-of-the-range commercial systems. Many brands offer cool capabilities on paper but fail to give your players the thrilling experience they want.

Laser Tag gained popularity in the 1990s. Everyone wore bulky vests that flashed bright lights while they walked through a dark, foggy maze.

The games were a free-for-all, with no clear objective beyond the number of hits you could make. When you died, you only had to wait a few seconds. There was no mission, no strategy, and no teamwork. At the time, that didn't matter!

Laser Tag was a huge hit. It wasn't like anything anyone had ever done, so people flocked to the new Laser Tag centre in town.

But that was thirty years ago.

Technology has radically changed over the last three decades, and what you can do with a Laser Tag system has rapidly changed. And will continue to change. If you're going to say ahead of the game, you can't start thirty years in the past. Invest in a Laser Tag brand that will stay cool and on trend for years.

Don’t get stuck in the 1990s!

Discover the Secrets Behind a Laser Tag System That Actually Works

Meet SATR:

Battlefield Sports' successful laser tag system consists of three ingenious parts:

  • The Gaming Guns (Laser Taggers)
  • The Game Props (Battle Boxes) and
  • The Controller (and/or the Scoreboard app).

These three integrated components create SATR, Battlefield Sports’ immersive live-action gaming experience.

        Laser Tag for 2025

These days, kids and teens love computer games. Whether it’s Fortnite, Valorant, or Call of Duty, there are hordes of children loving the excitement of video games. The video game industry has come far since Spacewar launched in the 1960s. The industry continues to innovate.

Modern kids have modern expectations and demands for their fun. They engage most with familiar concepts brought to life by the Laser Tag experience.

Gamers want real-time hit feedback – a patented technology developed by Battlefield Sports. When a player gets another player, they hear about it! The SFX can be customized depending on the gaming theme.

For example, if you are running a family-friendly event, the SFX should include sounds like “Tagged,” “De-activated,” or “Blue Team is Victorious!”

On the other hand, if you are running an event for teens or adults and you want something a bit more edgy, then the sound effects can include “Hit!” or “Kill” or “Bravo Team is Victorious!” These instant sound-effect feedback eliminates confusion and encourages gamers to push on. Players get a special zing when they know they’re shot landed.

"Before working with Nicole from Battlefield Sports, I struggled to find a supplier that met all my ambitious requirements—we wanted indoor, outdoor, advanced tech—the works! Two things really stand out: the communication is fantastic (Nicole always responds quickly and goes above and beyond), and their knowledge is incredible. They can answer detailed technical questions and offer loads of valuable info through their online Battlefield Sports university. I 100% recommend them!" Eleni H, LEH Laser Tag

Secret #1 to a Successful Laser Tag System: The Gaming Guns

When considering the best laser tag equipment, you can go for the cheapest models on the market. But how long will they last? Toys from your local big-box store aren’t likely to survive a month of heavy, commercial use, let alone a year or a decade.

The Battlefield Sports’ “Cobra” is as tough as they come.

These taggers have fiber reinforced polycarbonate shells. The oldest models were built over a decade ago and are still going strong.

Yes, like anything, you’ll need to do some maintenance to keep these in the best condition, but with the Cobra, you won’t need to worry about replacement costs skyrocketing over the years.

You also won’t be stung by royalties or ongoing licensing. Some laser tag companies offer cheap equipment but charge you yearly for using the product.

Consider the total cost of ownership. When you look ahead and run the numbers, you’ll often find that Battlefield Sports offers the most bang for your buck.

The Cobra has a key switch rather than a button to turn it on and off. This is an important feature to reduce cheating. Players can't just turn off their tagger, walk past the enemy, and then turn it back on to get them from behind!

Furthermore, the sensors, the scope, and the main case are all connected. They run on a single battery. This removes the headache of checking if every element of the tagger is turned off or on. Instead, you just turn the key and the tagger is ready to go.

Secret #2 to a Successful Laser Tag System: The Battle Boxes

Fully Integrated, Ready to Go Games: A Proven & Repeatable System

Many laser tag missions can appear fun in concept, but they can prove disastrous when you’re out on the field. There’s no time to mess around and do guesswork with fifty players in front of you, waiting, ready to play!

Instead, Battlefield Sports has ready-to-go games that are play-tested for engagement, games that are proven and repeatable.

Some of our most popular games are:

These games are action-packed AND easy to run. Now that's not a combo you see often in the Laser Tag industry.

Battlefield Sports uses “Battle Boxes” game props to take the management load off you.

Using the Battle Boxes, select options like “Flag Box” or “Royale Box” from the menu. Then place the boxes at the team’s bases, ready to start. Battle Boxes are easy to carry and built tough. You can play anywhere: indoors, outdoors, in the rain, on a gloomy night, or on a sunny day. These missions adapt to wherever you are!  The Flag Box supports the “Electronic Capture the Flag” game, while the “Royale Box” allows you to play the highly requested Battle Royale mission.

Battle Boxes can add additional elements to any Laser Tag game modes, such as:

  • Armor Box (pick up simulated armor, e.g., “Combat Helmet” or “Flak Jacket”)
  • Mystery Box (get a random weapon emulation from a “Cow Prod” to a “Machine Gun”!)
  • Perk Box (gain a special ability like “Last Stand,” where gamers come back with one hit point and a Pistol after they’re health is reduced to zero)
  • Supply Crate (pick up a mixture of weapon upgrades, shields, or healing items).

Like in video games, live-action players are encouraged to hunt for in-game supplies and perks.

Building up your laser tagger’s capabilities provides incentive to get into the action and adds “mini challenges” along the way.

When playing the famous “Battle Royale” game, getting to the supplies might be the difference between victory and defeat. Now that’s thrilling.

Secret #3 to a Successful Laser Tag System: The Controller

From Rookie to Pro: Here’s How You Scale Fast: 3 Levels of Complexity

As an organizer, starting to run events can be challenging, even overwhelming. There can be a lot to learn before you can even run a game.

The Battlefield Sports system offers three levels of control complexity, allowing you to start quickly and build up your skills over time.

An essential component of the Battlefield Sports laser tag system is the “Controller.” The Controller gives the operator a series of options to run the games.

The simplest controller is known as the “Basic Controller.” This has a limited list of commands that allow you to “turn on and play” with perhaps a glance at the instructions. It’s great for training new staff as well.

After that, you can use the “Simple Controller.” This has several options, including setting taggers for different teams, pausing every few seconds for a “briefing,” and using a “find” command at the end of the day to find everything! (All units still turned on will flash and make a loud noise to help you locate them.)

Finally, you can advance to the “Full Controller.” This has a wide variety of options. You can set the taggers to different languages, adjust the difficulty for games on the fly, and set “self-spawn” for players with low mobility.

Better still, the system also has an operation scoreboard app called “SATR-Go!” This is a mobile, Windows, scoreboard that does not need the Internet or Wi-fi to display real-time game scores. Read more about this clever upgrade here.
