The start of 2026 is no different. It’s easy to get fixated on the day-by-day problems of an operation. There is always a list of things to do, whether that’s managing staff, repairing the laser tag equipment, or chasing down bookings.
Every day brings its own round of challenges; taking these on requires business “tactics.”
Here’s the reality: tactics keep you in the game, but strategy wins the war.
Here’s how to lead your operation into 2026, without getting bogged down by the details.
It’s a powerful tool called “Code Word”.
This word directs every decision for your operation in the year to come.
For our local business, “Laser Tag in a Box”, our Code Word is... "Maximize".
In Australia, we offer rental packs for birthday parties, sports teams, youth groups, and more.
Some of our best customers are vacation cares (think “day camps” for your local summer camps). These centres need to fill every day of the school break with activities for the kids.
Over the summer, that's a lot of activities!
That’s where we’re putting our focus. We want to maximise our sales potential with our rental leads. We already made the booking, shipped the equipment, and arranged collection. All the hard work is done. For many years, those customers only booked laser tag for one day.
However, if we offered multiple activities, we would do all the same work… and make more money! For the Christmas Holidays (summer in Australia), we trialed an activity bundle. Our vacation care (aka summer camp) customers booked in two activities back-to-back:
They got an awesome deal on the second-day activity, which made it very enticing. Now we’re looking at new activities that fit the same mould, so we can maximise our sales even more.
Here are some more “code word” ideas for your operation...
Promote! Promote! Promote!
Sometimes the key issue isn’t your product or even lead conversion.
It’s getting the word out that you exist.
This word keeps your focus on building your database and aggressive marketing.
Maybe this is the year you focus on advertising. Maybe you commit to running local mobile events at fetes or fairs.
One of the biggest challenges businesses face is getting their names into their audience's minds. It’s time to knuckle down and do some regular old promo!
You have the latest software. You have the best equipment.
But maybe your battlefield is looking a little worse for wear. When was the last time you updated your battlefield?
This year, make it your mission to update your field. Choose a theme and stick to it. Here are some awesome things to consider:
• Tactical military
• Cyberpunk
• Family friendly
Work with what you already have. It’s amazing what a new coat of paint can do. Consider as well the experience from “arrival” to “departure”. Maybe the signs could use an update.
This code word can give your operation a trajectory.
If you want that "Hollywood" feel.
You’re focusing on immersive missions, cinematic soundscapes, and storytelling that keeps players coming back.
These days, word-of-mouth is king. People trust recommendations from others more than ads on the radio or TV.
The world is saturated with advertising.
But when someone recommends a product or place, that feels authentic. Their recommendation has weight.
The best way to ensure your customers talk about you after their event is to give them a phenomenal experience.
To refine your customer experience, maybe you need to:
• Update to the latest software. After all, as a laser tag operation, you need your “laser tag” to be AWESOME!
• Improve customer service. Are there any pain points your customers have when they come to you?
• Expand your arsenal. No one wants to sit out! If you’re booking out every session, then it’s time to give yourself some room to grow.
When it comes to laser tag, we always say:
"It’s the more the merrier!”

It’s great for players, too.
The more game time you can fit into a session, the more value for money they get.
Record: How many minutes of gameplay do your players get per hour at your location?
Think: How can you increase that?
Then implement! Some of the best tools for running efficient laser tag events include:
• “Switch Box Teams” is a radio command on the Controller that changes boxes on the Red Team to the Blue team (and vice versa). No longer do your staff need to change the team settings with an IR update. What took a couple of minutes now takes a couple of seconds.
• “Phrases” using phrases delivers clear messages to all your players, no matter how many are at a session. Some of the best include “Drinks Break”, “Change Ends”, and “Session Over”.
Why?
🤜🤛 What is the ONE word that will define your battlefield’s success in 2026?
Don't overthink it—trust your gut. Write it down now.
Better still, want to be accountable? Email me today! Include your "because". For example, if you pick efficiency, explain how it will grow your business, like "streamlining our check-in process will allow us to run 20% more sessions per day."
Let’s hold each other accountable and make this our most victorious year yet!

Q: How do I get started with my own Code Word?
A: Identify the biggest bottleneck in your business right now. Pick the one word that represents the solution to that bottleneck, and make it the theme of your 2026 operations.
