      The Household Name: Harry Potter

No one in the 21st century thinks "wizards" without also thinking "Harry Potter".
According to Scholastic, "The Harry Potter series has sold over 600 million copies worldwide in 85 languages. (...) The seventh book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, sold 8.3 million copies in the first 24 hours in the U.S., breaking all publishing records (set by previously published Harry Potter titles)."
Despite the first book coming out over 25 years ago, Harry Potter remains a mainstay of kids' media. Movies, video games, special editions, and even cookbooks continue to be made long after the final book's publication.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a themed area spanning multiple theme parks, with another under construction. First launched in 2010 at Universal Islands of Adventure, it then expanded to Universal Studios Florida and Universal Studios Japan in 2014. Another themed area opened at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2016. But the popularity hasn't declined. A new iteration opened in Orlando, at Universal Epic Universe, in summer 2025.
Bring some of that success to your door. Give your customers a chance to be a Mage Apprentice (aka a student at a Wizarding School) for a day.

Of course, Harry Potter is hardly the only kids' media that focuses on magic. The much-loved Worst Witch series by Jill Murphy began in 1974, with the most recent book published in 2018.
The wide popularity of this children's book series has led to the silver screen many times. In 1986, the first book was adapted as a television film. Following this, another adaptation in the form of a TV series aired between 1998 and 2001. It inspired two spin-offs, Weirdsister College and The New Worst Witch.

Recently, its most recent adaptation introduced the series to a new generation of girls. It aired for four seasons from 2017 to 2020.

The Rainbow Magic books were the most-borrowed children's books at libraries in the United Kingdom in 2011. After a fall in popularity during the late 2010s, the books surged up the trends again during the pandemic. More books continue to be published.

For decades, Disney has been inspiring kids across the world with magical stories. The Tinkerbell Movies (2008 - 2014) achieved massive success. More recently, they have released movies such as Encanto (2021) and Wish (2023). Of course, no one can forget the breakout success of Frozen (2013).

Kids Want Magic, They Want Adventure, They Want Magic Academy!
What people on Tiktok thought after seeing a sneak peak...

The hype is real!
Join us and offer this world-first live magic adventure.

Magic Academy expands on the tried-and-true SATR system from Battlefield Sports. After 20 years in the industry, we've used our expertise to launch a world-first magic game.
This is fully interactive!
Battlefield Sports has developed a world-first game with interactive wands. Players are "Mages in Training" at a magic school.

You can have two teams, Red vs Blue. Or, you can split the group into five Houses: Red vs Blue vs Green vs Yellow vs Purple.
The great thing about two teams is that half the players win every time!

The multi-team option is great for large school groups, as they often already have four or five sporting houses.

Each mage starts with 5 Magic Shields. Every time they get tagged (with a spell), they lose a shield. When they've been tagged 5 times, they are out of shields - and out of magic!
They will need to go back to their magic chest to restore their magic.
When a mage tags another, their wand lets them know!
"Jinxed" means the mage got their opponent.
"Hexed" means the mage got their opponent, as the opponent is now out of shields.
"Already Spellbound" means the opponent was tagged out by someone else (find a new target!)

The most important sound effect for player experience and group management is actually what they hear when they are tagged out! When a player has been tagged five times, their wand will display the message "Shields Gone".
Sometimes a player will miss this message the first time. Not to worry. Every time they swing their wand after this, their wand will say, "You are Spellbound. Return to Your Chest".
Now that's helpful!
This sound effect tells the player of their status and what to do now. That makes group management super easy.
When it comes to kids, they aren't guaranteed to listen or understand the instructions the first time. With this sound effect, that's not an issue. Their wand lets them know exactly what they need to do to get back into the game.
Battle Boxes are devices used to run Magic Academy efficiently. One of the primary jobs of a Battle Box is to restore players' shields. Because players must return to their magic chest, the game has a natural flow.
Flow is an essential building block of a player's internal narrative. Every kid wants to feel like a hero, but if they can't see their success, they grow frustrated instead. When the player tags out an opponent, instead of the opponent just standing around waiting, they run back to their base. This is a clear visual cue to the player that they've achieved something.
Battle Boxes change the game.
Because a staff member isn't required to reactivate players, the e-LARP (Magic Academy) system can be operated with very few staff. Only one staff member is needed for up to 25 players. And with an assistant, a manager can typically handle up to 80 people at a time.
Every Player Plays Every Second
With the battle boxes, players aren't sitting out or waiting around. Even when tagged out, they have a task (go back to base). This adds to the thrill. Players are never out for long.
Players not in the game are bored players!

Magic Academy can be adapted to a variety of themes. From fairy parties, to "learn to be a witch" days and wizarding birthdays.

Being able to replicate the fun, day after day, game after game, is a vital part of making an attraction work.
Our ready-to-go games are exactly that.
With twenty years of experience, the Battlefield Sports brand has developed games that are easy to set up, simple for the players, and AWESOME FUN! Now that's the winning ticket.

Bullseye is the perfect game to run as part of the Magic Academy experience.
This game is engaging and great for all fitness levels.
The organizer sets up a chest in the middle of the field, equal distance between each team's starting location.
The mages must get up to the chest and cast a spell on it. When they do this, the chest flashes their team's colour once. They've just scored 1 point!
Whichever team tags the box the most, wins!
One tag = one point
This game is a hit with kids & their parents!

The Battlefield Sports' e-LARP (Magic Academy) is 100% portable. It doesn't require a large central computer to be set up, nor does it need access to electricity and the internet.
It can be played indoors or outdoors.
This means that whether you have a mobile operation or simply want to revamp your current location, this is the kit for you!
Players often come from a game saying, "I got you!" or "I got the box!"

That's their narrative, the story of the game as told by themselves to themselves, shining through.
Magic Academy is all about Team Victory. It's super important to have this because it expands the number of participants who get the added thrill of "Victory!!". If the game has two teams, that means half the players win every round. WOW!
The standard system allows the operator to announce the winning team. The Controller will ask if it should announce the winner. If yes, all the wands on the field will say "Red Team is Victorious" or "Blue Team is Victorious". That way, everyone knows who won at the same time.
Cue the cheers.
With the scoreboard, you can bring the victory to the big screen.
The Scoreboard gives real-time updates throughout the game on the scores, letting any spectators know how well each team is doing. When the game is over, players can come back and find the names of their wands.
The Scoreboard automatically assigns the wands an "alias" if it doesn't already have one (no configuration necessary).
The most helpful player for each team will have their alias appear on the screen. For Capture & Hold, this is the player that tagged the Capture Box the most number of times!
