Live Your Dream: Go Out & Start Creating

There is a risk associated with starting your own business.

As the Holstee team says: "Some Opportunities only come Once, Seize Them."The Holstee Manifesto

This is one of the 15 points in their manifesto. A manifesto that has been translated into 12 languages, and been viewed more than 50 million times.

This year has been so far a pretty tough one here at Battlefield Sports. The year 2022 is the "Year of the Tiger".  The last couple of years have been crazy! But I am confident that this next year will be better.  You know why? Because we are living our dream.

According to legend, Tigers are courageous and active people who love a good challenge and adventure in life.  A while back, Peter and I attended the AALARA (Australia's IAAPA) in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast.

It lifted our spirits. The inspiring speakers reminded us to live our dream.

Live by our company motto: "Every Game, Every Gamer."

Todd Coates the CEO of Dreamworld and White Water World and Q1, three entertainment icons in Australia, reminded us that we all need to have a clear purpose - a clear ambitious picture of the future.

Todd said there are a lot of ways to make $50 million a year. You can entertain 5 million people paying $10 each. Or you can entertain 1 million people per year paying $50 each. Or you can entertain 250,000 people per year paying $200 each. The key, he said, is to work out your entertainment offer that is worth $200 per person.

He said in his business, at Dreamworld, he offers 'pay for play' $5 per person for around 5-minute game and he also offers a special, unique, photo with a Tiger at $500 a pop.

Whatever your price point for your live-action gaming the most important thing is to do what you love.

That’s what the founders of Holstee did.

As reported by the Washington Post, Dave and Mike Radparvar [co-founders of Holtstee] made a pact that they would both quit their jobs on the same day to work on Holstee full-time.

“You know in ‘The Matrix’ when they unplug you? It felt like that,” Radparvar said about quitting. “We had this nervous energy and excitement.”

Radparvar is pleasantly surprised when people thank him for the manifesto. “It’s as if no one told people that you should be enjoying life,” he said. “Maybe you just have to see something lots of time to act on it.”

The brothers have created a video illustrating their manifesto. The clip is set in New York.

Having visited in New York just last month we felt the connection immediately.

We encourage you to watch it.

Scott Rick, a professor of marketing at the University of Michigan, likens the manifesto to the “Just Do It” slogan popularized by Nike. The difference, Rick said, is that Holstee explained what the “it” is.

Discover what your “it” is.

The manifesto states: Life is about the people you meet and the things you create with them. So go out and start creating.

What does Battlefield Sports create? Sure we make great gaming guns. Sure we sell terrific gaming inflatables. Sure we write thrilling live games/missions.

But these are not really our products.

No.

Instead, our valuable final product is to create happy memories.

Our goal is to create one of those really memorable times. One of those times in your childhood or a day, as a teen, you remember for the rest of your life.

That is why we believe in every game, every gamer.

This motto captures the values we believe in honor, honesty, courage, integrity, innovation, and loyalty.

Sure what we have done in the past hasn’t been perfect.

Sure we’ve made mistakes.

Todd Coates likened recruitment (be it with your suppliers or your crew) to faith, hope, and charity. He said when you first employ someone you have faith that they will make a terrific contribution to the team.

As time goes on you might have had a couple of incidents that weren’t quite what YOU expected, but you have hope that this team member will improve and again contribute to the team.

But, Coates said, if it gets to the stage of charity; where you are giving and giving to those in need with no hope of getting something in return, or in this case no likelihood of contributing to the team, that is where you need to cut your losses.

This year we have said good-bye to some of our team.

While one chapter ends, another chapter begins.

We encourage you, dear customer, to be a part of the story. We encourage you to do what you love and do it often. If you don’t like something, change it. If you don’t like your job, quit. If you don’t have enough time, stop watching TV.

Well, you know the rest.

Here’s to Holstee and here’s to a bright, new, ambitious future!
