Tony Hood - Finance for Small Business

Tony Hood from Accounts William Buck, gave his insights on the economy and the attractions industry. He said there are three options for business: to be the lowest cost provider, to be a monopoly or duopoly, or to really differentiate themselves in the market. And for the majority of small business differentiation is the only option. Tony mentioned that example of Tiny Teddies as a bonus with each Cappuccino sold at the theme park A Maze ‘n Things on Phillip Island.  

Kathryn Valk - Marketing for Small Business

Kathryn Valk GM Marketing, from Dreamworld, spoke that most consumers nowadays are seeking an experience rather than just accumulating products. She spoke about the pathway that consumers and marketers walk together. That there are now 5 billion smartphones in the word and they have become essential. There is a myriad of ways of connecting with your customers. Kathryn also recommends profiling your customers so you could really get to know them.

Megan Reid - Personnel for Small Business

Megan Reid, GM People, both from Dreamworld, spoke on how vital it is for new employees to be inducted into an organization, in particular, that the employee signs off on the business’s Code of Conduct (the expectations of your employees conduct), Bullying & Harassment Policy (legislative requirement), OH&S Responsibilities. She quotes Lee Iacocca “Start with good people, lay out the rules, communicate with your employees, motivate them and rewards them. If you do all those things effectively, you can't miss.”

Nicole Lander - Top 7 Tips for Small Business

Jason Wallace - New Attractions for Small Business

Jason Wallace, from Strike Bowling, spoke about his company which currently offers bowling, laser tag, karaoke are rolling out a new attraction – escape rooms.
